The Taming of the Shrew
“To me she's married, not unto my clothes!” - Petruchio, The Taming of the Shrew.
In the summer of 2016, UPShakes’ brought Marquette The Taming of the Shrew, staged in their new venue at the Ore Dock Brewing Company.
The Taming of the Shrew has disgusted and delighted theatergoers for over four hundred years. The play depicts the rough-and-tumble courtship of Petruchio, a sleazy gold digger, and Katherina, the eponymous “shrew.” Bernard Shaw described the climax as, “‘altogether disgusting to modern sensibility.” The play’s potent mix of sex, violence and screwball comedy had the audience laughing (sometimes nervously) and, after the show was over, talking.
